A Brief Introduction

To strengthen the dissemination of STI policy data and information, UNESCO has been working with the People’s Republic of China to conduct research, to facilitate technology transfer and to promote international cooperation. The Chinese Government with UNESCO’s support established CISTRAT in 2012 as a Category II Centre under the auspices of UNESCO. The Centre is based in Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) which is one of the most significant think tanks in China that supports S&T policy-making. CISTRAT leverages the research capacity and cooperation network of CASTED to provide training for S&T policy officials, researchers, teachers, etc., in developing countries. By now, nearly 100 international trainees have benefited from our trainings.


Training topics

This training workshop will cover the following topics related to S&T policy: S&T Planning, S&T Management System, S&T Statistics, S&T Finance, S&T Foresight, S&T Talents, S&T in Industrial Development, S&T in Regional Development, etc.


Training methods

Due to the pandemic, the training courses in 2021 will be delivered online. CISTRAT will record the courses in advance and upload it to the website for registered students to watch and learn. Trainees could log in at any time during the duration time to watch the courses.

Lecturers will be selected from CASTED and organizations from its cooperation network.


Working language

English.


Fees

This workshop does not charge training fees.


Certificate

Trainees who complete all the online training courses and complete all assigned reports and surveys will be given a certificate issued by MOST after the end of the workshop.


Application Requirements

1) Master’s degree or above

2) No less than two years of work experience in research, teaching, consulting, management or decision-making related to S&T policy.

3) Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English for academic purposes. Language ability certificates, such as TOEFL and IELTS, will be an asset.


Application Documents

1) An application form, attached at the end of this notice, to be completed in English

2) A professional CV in English

3) A recommendation letter in English from present employer, with seal/signature


The above-mentioned documents need to be sent to our secretariat (cistrat-secretariat@outlook.com) no later than September 15, 2021 for a review to select trainees out of the applicants.
